10K, barefoot running, bhaag milkha bhaag, milkha singh, music, run, runner, running
Last week looked bleak with a very ill first born, sleepless nights and a lot of flurry at work. I didn’t expect much running but squeezed in a few. At least the distances run were progressive- 3k, 4k, 5k. Not training worthy but the win on some days is just getting out. Something is better than nothing. Today made up for all the lag. I ran a 10k. The roads were empty in anticipation of the Elephant God’s arrival and just the way I like it. The weather was perfect and I felt as light as the wind.
The season is shifting again and there is a hint of the cool that is yet to come. It’s one of the nice things about running, a certain tuning in to the slight changes on the breeze. The same routes change colour as the months roll on to the beat of the earth’s movement. Even the birds and animals change their rhythm as the light changes.
I had music for company and was listening to a song from a biopic on a legendary Indian athlete. The movie, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, is a favourite despite its excessive length and dramatization. It traces the life of Milkha Singh, an Olympian sprinter who overcomes many hardships and wins medals for his country. Almost all the songs from the movie are quite catchy and upbeat. The title song has lyrics which paint a very grounded image that defines as it defies. If I had to interpret it, I’d say it was a call to straddle the earth and the skies, to be magnificently and gloriously human.

I agree. Just getting out is a win. I know what you mean about seasons. Only 2 weeks ago the farmer was out late making hay, last night I went out and a field was ploughed!

I much prefer the light nights so I can get on the country roads, so I will have to run around town under the street lights!!!
